It is November 8th and we have been tied up at Danga Bay Marina now for just over a week. We arrived here on November 1st after almost a delightful passage by Singapore, the current was so favourable that at one point we managed a speed of 9.1NM which for us is 'really speeding' he,he!
But when we drew closer to the bridge that connects Singapore and Malaysia we saw a huge black cloud ahead, we heard thunders booming nearby, saw LaBarque promptly sail under the bridge and then completely disappear into a dark wet wall.
Just as it was our turn to undergo the bridge we were in the middle of one nasty squall, thunders were booming right above us and the bridge was lit by lightning's like a Christmas Tree. We hardly even saw the bridge pillars a few feet away, but by then there was not really an option but just keep going hoping we would not hit anything and nothing would hit us.
With eyes as wide open as possible we gazed in earnest into the gray wall all around us, hoping not to run into LaBarque or anything else.
As tends to be the custom of such weather phenomenon this did not last long and soon our range of perception grew. We saw the outlines of LaBarque and shortly after that we heard Patrick call us on the VHF, he was mighty glad to hear Kári´s voice and stated that he had been seriously worried about our electronics in the thunderstorm when he saw the lightning's flying all around us as we underwent the bridge.
The SuperCat disappeared during the storm and after considerable search I found Skotta crouching under the WC which evidently was the safest place aboard Lady Ann during such show of sensational weather.
We anchored with the bridge and slept well through the night, happy to have cleared Singapore waters without a snag, not forgetting to praise our guardian angels for keeping us safe through traffic and storm.
As soon as we were tied at the marina I biked to the gym, hoping for a favourable reply regarding my membership. It is absolutely great to have this wonderful gym just around the corner from the marina and I was mighty grateful to learn that I can come and go there through this year.
Yesterday was one of those days that remind you of such mischievous creatures as house elf's. I was luxuriating in the sofa with a cup of tea enjoying a TV program - TV being something I have not had the pleasure of for a year or more. When all of a sudden the TV simply died. No matter what I tried, the TV would not wake up, even Kári could not get it to perform.
In a somewhat sour mood I asked Kári then to engage his phone so I could look at our mail on the internet via 3G. I have not been on the net now for more than two weeks and saw that there were pages of unread mail waiting. As soon as I had opened one letter the internet connection was gone.
Now I was getting seriously grumpy and when Kári could not connect us again to the internet I decided that I better go to the gym and see if a half an hour jog or so would not improve my mood.
Kári scratched his head and tried to amend ways aboard Lady Ann and when he had no luck he visited Blue Tango hoping they might shine a light on what was going on. He smilingly told them that after destroying the electronics in our abode I had taken my bike and was now probably busy crippling the electronics at the gym he,he!
My luck seemed to change while I was at the gym, the heavens opened and poured down rain while I was inside only to stop and offer a wonderful dry weather and clean air as I biked home.
But as soon as I was inside the boat it started pouring again and did not let up until long after we were fast asleep - we did not go to bed as early as usual because Kári did manage to connect us again to the internet :D
