Upphlutur

Upphlutur
The Upphlutur, literal translation is Upper Part,
was the National Costume used on holidays
and other special occasions.
Skirt and apron usually made out of better material
than with the Peysuföt.
The Upphlutur, a kind of ornamented vest,
is the distinctive part of this type of the National Costume.

Detail of Ornaments
The Upphlutur was richly embroidered with gold thread,
and gold, or silver, filigreed ornaments were also used.
The Skotthúfa was also worn with this costume.
