Himbrimi - Great Northern Diver
Gavia immer
The Great Northern Diver is a resident, but part of the stock is migratory. The Great Northern Diver is of American origin, and Iceland is the only place in Europe where the Great Northern Diver breeds. This bird is ill adapted for life on land, as the feet are set very close to the tail, and the bird does not really walk, but slides along on its breast when on land.
Length is about 85 cms - about 34 inches.
The stamp was issued in 1967 with a face value of 20 krónur.
Printed in Heliogravure by Courvoisier.
