How do I get
to Iceland?
You fly in!

Iceland is an island and it´s to far to jump so plane or a ship is necessary. Nowadays most of our visitors come by plane although we have frequent visits of the great seafaring cruisers. If you prefer flight for speed and cost we have the icelandic aviating company:

  • Icelandair operates offices in many countries and you can get info and buy tickets on the web - and there also you can freely join some Icelandair-web-club and get offers. Look them up on http://www.icelandair.net and find your country, the time schedules and offers.
  • Iceland on the Web has also many answers to questions you haven't even begun to phrase!

From Air Terminal
to Reykjavik
The transport Air Terminal - Reykjavik
  • Busses go regularly both ways. Just step out of the terminal and there are the busses waiting. The fare is some $10 one way. The bus goes to the Loftleidir Hotel near the centrum of Reykjavik. Therefrom it is convenient to take a taxi.
  • A taxi would drive you the 40 km from Keflavik airport to Reykjavik and then to the doorstep of your destinationa - and then back again to it's home base - a total of approximately 100 km. This makes it's normal price some $100. In Iceland the price of a taxi is not connected to the number of passengers - and tipping is included in the metered price.
  • A returning taxi. Of course you might find a taxi returning to Reykjavik in a midst of it's tour Reykjavik-Keflavik-Reykjavik and strike a better bargain.
  • Special arrangements can be made. F.ex. you can arrange with GOP-xcursions to have a superjeep waiting - and taking you wherever - whenever ...

The season makes a difference ..
  • Spring:
Time of year: April - June. Range of temperature: general -5 to +10 deg/C, extreme -20 to +20 deg/C, road condition: paved roads along the shore open for trafique but only superjeeps can travel offroad on the snow in the highland.
    .
  • Summer:
Time of year: June - August. Range of temperature: general 5 to 15 deg/C, extreme 2 to +25 deg/C, all roads in inhabited parts of the country are open. Most of the highland roads are open in the middle of July. Near to the glaciers there is a constant spring until winter seizes the reign. There - and up on the glaciers - only the superjeeps can manage.
    .
  • Autumn:
Time of year: September - October. Range of temperature: general -5 to +10 deg/C, extreme -20 to +20 deg/C, road condition: the best of all seasons. Nevertheless tjhe glaciers are only for the superjeep.
    .
  • Winter:
Time of year: October - April. Range of temperature: general -10 to +5 deg/C, extreme -25 to +10 deg/C, road condition: paved roads along the shore often blocked by snow for a part of a day and some shortcuts close for the whole winter. Only the superjeep can manage the highland and the glaciers.
