TRIVIA 1. And Then There Were None (Ten Little
Indians/Ten Little Niggers) (25) COMMENTS "I've been a fan of Christie's for more than twenty years and have read most of her novels. One of her works, which seems to be relatively unappreciated when compared with towering masterpieces like Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, Ten Little Indians, and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, haunted me more than the rest, and it stayed with me much longer. The book I'm referring to is Murder in Retrospect [a.k.a. Five Little Pigs]. The genius of this novel is that, as it's title suggests, the significance of the murder is only appreciated in retrospect. The final chapter still gives me chills when I think of it, and I believe that this book is a precursor for many of the cerebral thrillers and psychological investigations of Ruth Rendell and P.D. James. Kudos to Christie for being so visionary!"kenamond@aol.com My favorite Agatha Christie
story is Crooked House. Why? I cannot tell you, it's
simply the best one." "Favorite
books: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Ten Little Niggers, The ABC
Murders and The Mysterious Affair at Styles. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd,
for several reasons: I have listened to the excellent BBC radio play
available on cassette so many times I almost know it by heart. What is not
generally known, however, is that the very same trick was used by the
Norwegian author "Stein Riverton" (real name: Sven Elvestad) in
his novel "Jernvognen" ("The iron wagon") ca. 1908. Ten
Little Niggers, beacuse I read it in one go - I simply could not
put it away before it was finished (I started reading it late at night...)
Even several non-AC-fans among my friends say the enjoy this. The
ABC Murders, because it was the very first English book I tried
to read (I was 14 at the time, and it took me the best part of the Easter
Holidays to finish the first 50 pages or so. I don't think I read the
final part until 5 or 10 years later... The Mysterious Affair at
Styles, because it was the first novel, and an excellent starting
point on an AC reading career!" "My
favorite story by Agatha Christie is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
It has a very clever twist and is by far one of her greatest works." "Some
of my favorites are The Big Four, The Man in the Brown Suit and
The Secret of Chimneys." "Favorite books: A
Caribbean Mystery, Elephants Can Remember, The
Body in the Library and The Adventure of the Christmas
Pudding. Ela é uma grande senhora da literatura policial. os
seus livros săo tudo aquilo que de belo, educativo e interessante se pode
ler. sou uma das suas fans." "Favorite books:
The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, Death Comes as the
End, At Bertram's Hotel and Murder at
the Vicarage. Miss Marple is simply the best ... Agatha Christie
has been my favorie author since I was old enough to read her books." "My favourite Agatha
Christie's book is The Moving Finger. The scenery is most
ideal for a murder to be committed, a place where nothing ever happens.
Nothing? Other favorites: Murder is Easy and Sleeping
Murder." "Favorite books: Ten
Little Niggers, Partners in Crime, Murder
on the Orient Express and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd." "Ten Little
Niggers and Murder on the Orient Express are my
favorite books, keeping me in suspense right up to the last page. Agatha
Christie was the best mystery writer ever to write. It's impossible for me
to choose one favorite. I won't stop till I own them all. Other favorites:
Murder is Easy and Five Little Pigs." "I like The Big
Four, Cards on the Table, Crooked House and
Murder on the Orient Express because of their frequent
twists in the story. Crooked House is my best in all of
my collection." "The Murder
of Roger Ackroyd: Pure controversy, come say its cheating,
some of us think the trick is terrific! Ten Little Niggers:
Excellent psychological mystery, great ending, excellent play too. The
Big Four: Pure mystery... need to read it again. Death
on the Nile: Loved the descriptions and characters...
unsolvable mystery." "Agatha is a genius!
Favorite books: Ten Little Niggers, The ABC
Murders and Murder on the Orient Express." "I love Murder
on the Orient Express since it shows the deepness of love, faith,
revenge and pain in a simple story. I love the stories talking about the
memories and secrets in the past, etc. Favorite books: Murder on
the Orient Express, The Secret of Chimneys and Cat
Among the Pigeons." "Favorite book: Murder
on the Orient Express." "Favorite books: Why
Didn't They Ask Evans?, The Big Four, Ten
Little Niggers and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd." “Don't say that you have
read a detective story until you have read Murder on the Links and
Ten Little Niggers!” "The Murder of
Roger Ackroyd, Hercule Poirot's Christmas, Murder
on the Orient Express and Why Didn't They Ask Evans?
are my favorites. They are simpy great, fantastic! I never know who the
murderer is!" "Cat Among the
Pigeons, Hallowe'en Party, N or M?
and The Moving Finger are all very nicely done books,
keeping me in suspense right up to the last moment, the last page! Great
books." "Agatha Christie was
without a doubt the best mystery writer ever to write. It is impossible to
pick only one favorite - they are all equally enjoyable. I won't stop till
I own them all! Favorite books: Murder at the Vicarage, An
Autobiography, The Body in the Library and The
Moving Finger." "Favorite books: Ten
Little Niggers, Curtain, The Seven Dials
Mystery and Murder on the Orient Express." "Favorite book: Murder
on the Orient Express." "Favorite books: Death
on the Nile, At Bertram's Hotel, Murder
on the Orient Express and Endless Night. Agatha
Christie is one of my favorite writers. I've read 46 books by her and I
will read more. I think her books have all what a book needs: love, a lot
of mistery and fun." "Every time I read one
of her books it seems there is a totally new twist to every story. Her
stories make you believe you know who the killer is but at the end it is
someone totally unexpected, and that is what keeps me to reading her
infamous stories with Hercule Poroit. I can read some of her books more
than twice easily and still not know who the killer is. She is
undoubtedely the Queen of mystery novels. My favorite stories are Three
Blind Mice, The ABC Murders, Murder on
the Orient Express and Cards on the Table." "Favorite stories: The
Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Witness for the Prosecution,
Taken at the Flood and The ABC Murders." "I love Agatha
Christie's stories. Favorite books: Death in the Clouds and
Crooked House." "Favorite books: Five
Little Pigs, A Murder is Announced, The
Mysterious Affair at Styles and The Murder of Roger
Ackroyd." "Favorite books:
Ten Little Niggers, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd,
Cards on the Table and Three Act Tragedy.
I have never read (and probably never will read) a murder mystery more
mind-boggling, more inventive, and more amusing than any of my favorite
Christies. Ten Little Niggers had me looking over my
shoulder every few minutes, and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd often found me
howling with laughter at the verbal antics of Dr. Sheppard and his verbose
older sister. Agatha Christie is irreplaceable!" "Favorite books:
Murder on the Orient Express, Death in the Clouds,
The Big Four and 4.50 from Paddington. I
read all the books that she wrote. And according to me she is the queen of
detective story writters." "Favorite books: Curtain,
Ten Little Niggers, Ordeal by Innocence and
Death on the Nile." "I like the Murder
on the Orient Express. Hercule Poirot, is in his own mind is
"Probably the greatest Detective in the world", I was surprised
he said "Probably"! The reason I like Ten little Indains
is how the murderer was so smart to plan all those murders and baffle the
police." "I vote for the three of
her prominent artwork - And Then There Were None, Death
on the Nile and Murder on the Orient Express.
Still , I found Appointment with Death and By the
Pricking of my Thumbs rather boring." "The Big Four is
the best Agatha Christie Book! Hercule Poirot was great, he and his friend
Cap. Hastings." "A Murder is
Announced, Partners in Crime, Parker
Pyne Investigates and Death on the Nile are all
brilliant." "My favourite book is Death
on the Nile." "Favorite books: Death
on the Nile, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Appointment
with Death and Sad Cypress." "Agatha Christie's books
always challenging to read and full of surprises. Ten Little
Niggers is the best detective story that I've ever read. Other
favorites: Murder on the Orient Express, The Big
Four and A Caribbean Mystery." "My favorite Agatha
Christie's novels are Murder on Orient Express, The
A.B.C. Murders, Death on the Nile, Ten
Little Niggers and The Pale Horse." "I love Crooked
House, Sad Cypress, Ordeal by Innocence and Five Little
Pigs. I particularly like those stories which unravel an event in
the past. I like her explorations of children and the nature of the
relationships between children and adults. She had a clear idea of the way
memory tricks and deludes us and uses this in many of my favorite
stories." "I
think that The Big Four, The ABC Murders, The Murder of Roger
Ackroyd and Ten Little Niggers are the four top
of Agatha Christie's works. All of them have unusual plots and are very
gripping. Hercule Poirot rules!" "Favorite books: Ten
Little Niggers, Crooked House, Towards
Zero, The Mysterious Affair at Styles." "I love Miss Marple!
Favorite books: A Pocket Full of Rye, A Caribbean
Mystery, Nemesis, The Mirror Crack'd
from Side to Side." "I like The ABC
Murders, Ten Little Niggers, Murder in
Mesopotamia and The Big Four because of their
ingenuity." "Favorite books: The
Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Death on the Nile, The
ABC Murders." "A Murder is
Announced is phenomenal! I also liked Curtain, The
Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murder on The Orient Express.
They all have an unusual end, which is the most exciting thing in
Christie's stories." "I think that The
ABC Murders is the Christie's best book because the idea of the
letters that are written to Poirot are simply fantastic!" "My favorite is The
A.B.C. Murders." "My favoritie Christe
book is Ten Little Niggers. It's fantastic. Really good.
I like one more book ... The Big Four. It's a different
case of Hercule Poirot and his friend Hastings, it is the most difficult
case of Poirot in my point of view." "Favorite books: Witness
for the Prosecution and Other Stories, Ten Little Niggers,
Partners in Crime, The Sittaford Mystery.
She was a fabulous writer nobody today can ever compare with her. I have
so many more favorites esp.Poirot, Ms. Marple, and Tuppence n'
Tommy." "I really liked Ten
Little Niggers. Christie manages to keep a spooky atmosphere
throughout the whole novel and the ending is simply brilliant." "My favorite Christie
mystery is Murder on the Orient Express. I think it is
her best work, though I haven't read all of her works." "I started reading
Agatha Christie in 5th grade when I did a book report on Murder on
the Orient Express. Since then, I've been hooked on Christie.
I've read several of her books, but my favorites are Orient,
A Murder is Announced, The Murder of Roger
Ackroyd, Hickory Dickory Death, the play Towards
Zero, and Death on the Nile. I love Death
on the Nile! If anyone thinks she wrote anything better then Death
on the Nile, They're Wrong with a capitol W. I'd also like to say
that the films based on her work are awful!." "I started reading
Christie in high school, and my all time favorite then was And
Then There Were None. What a surprise for those who have only
seen the movie! The best film adaptation was of Murder on the
Orient Express, but Death on the Nile was also
handsomely done. I currently have over 30 first editions and hope to have
50 by the end of the year." "I am a fan of Ten
Little Niggers and I have read it twice (in two different
languages, Icelandic and Danish) and thought it was very cleverly plotted
and the ending was a big surprise." "My favorite Agatha
Christie novel is The Murder of Roger Aykroyd. If you
plucked out the last two chapters, nobody can solve the crime even if
he/she reads it more than once." "How can you choose a
favorite? There's maybe a few who can't compete, but Roger Ackroyd,
Endless Night, and the one taking place in the Middle
East with the dysfunctional American family where the mother gets killed (Appointment
with Death) are some of my favorites." "My favorite Agatha
Christie is Nemesis. The plot is complicated and gives a
thorough view of Miss Marple's admirable personality and abilities." "My favorite Agatha
Christie's mystery is surely Ten Little Niggers. I like
all about this book: the perfectly designed characters, the gloomy and
creepy atmosphere, the incredible plot structure. I like it so much even
because it is one of the very few Agatha's mysteries in which I wasn't
able to find out the culprit, till the wonderful end! I really think that
nobody could guess it! What a genius she was! Anyway a part from that one
I like all of her books and especially Sad Cypress, Crooked
House and Murder is Easy." "I would go for The
Pale Horse (with Ariadne Oliver) this time. My opinions as to the
'best' Christie mystery change depending on which one I read last! This
novel is about a serial killer who has a very unusual method of killing
people, undetectably. The atmosphere is also nice and creepy." "My favorite Agatha
Christie story is The Hollow. It's cinematized in Japan,
"KIKEN NA ONNA-TACHI" (Dangerous Women) 1985." "My favorite story was A
Murder is Announced." "My favorite Agatha
Christie is not a mystery at all. Come Tell Me How You Live
I found to be fascinating." "My favorite Agatha
Christie novel is definitely Why Didn't They Ask Evans?'" "The short story The
Affair of the Pink Pearl in the collection Partners in
Crime is in my opinion the best Agatha Christie story. I also
liked the Poirot mystery Three-Act Tragedy." 1. And Then There Were None (Ten
