COMMENTS

"I've been a fan of Christie's for more than twenty years and have read most of her novels.  One of her works, which seems to be relatively unappreciated when compared with towering masterpieces like Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, Ten Little Indians, and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, haunted me more than the rest, and it stayed with me much longer.  The book I'm referring to is Murder in Retrospect [a.k.a. Five Little Pigs]. The genius of this novel is that, as it's title suggests, the significance of the murder is only appreciated in retrospect.  The final chapter still gives me chills when I think of it, and I believe that this book is a precursor for many of the cerebral thrillers and psychological investigations of Ruth Rendell and P.D. James.  Kudos to Christie for being so visionary!"

My favorite Agatha Christie story is Crooked House. Why? I cannot tell you, it's simply the best one."
Jan, the Czech Republic (Detective of the Month, March 1997 and May 1997)

"Favorite books: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Ten Little Niggers, The ABC Murders and The Mysterious Affair at Styles. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, for several reasons: I have listened to the excellent BBC radio play available on cassette so many times I almost know it by heart. What is not generally known, however, is that the very same trick was used by the Norwegian author "Stein Riverton" (real name: Sven Elvestad) in his novel "Jernvognen" ("The iron wagon") ca. 1908. Ten Little Niggers, beacuse I read it in one go - I simply could not put it away before it was finished (I started reading it late at night...) Even several non-AC-fans among my friends say the enjoy this. The ABC Murders, because it was the very first English book I tried to read (I was 14 at the time, and it took me the best part of the Easter Holidays to finish the first 50 pages or so. I don't think I read the final part until 5 or 10 years later... The Mysterious Affair at Styles, because it was the first novel, and an excellent starting point on an AC reading career!"
Per Lea (Norway) (Detective of the Month August 1997, December 1997, February 1998, March 1998)

Brian Harradine, USA

"My favourite Agatha Christie's book is The Moving Finger. The scenery is most ideal for a murder to be committed, a place where nothing ever happens. Nothing? Other favorites: Murder is Easy and Sleeping Murder."
Vera, Greece

"Favorite books: Ten Little Niggers, Partners in Crime, Murder on the Orient Express and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd."
Sebastien Reviron, France

The Big Four: Pure mystery... need to read it again. Death on the Nile: Loved the descriptions and characters... unsolvable mystery."

The deepness and psychology of this book one can compare with the novels of Dostoevskiy, but Agatha Christie is better. Other favorite books: Endless Night, Ten Little Niggers and Death on the Nile."
Wahagn Malojan, Germany

"Favorite books: Death on the Nile, At Bertram's Hotel, Murder on the Orient Express and Endless Night. Agatha Christie is one of my favorite writers. I've read 46 books by her and I will read more. I think her books have all what a book needs: love, a lot of mistery and fun."
Erika Isler (Chile)

"Every time I read one of her books it seems there is a totally new twist to every story. Her stories make you believe you know who the killer is but at the end it is someone totally unexpected, and that is what keeps me to reading her infamous stories with Hercule Poroit. I can read some of her books more than twice easily and still not know who the killer is. She is undoubtedely the Queen of mystery novels. My favorite stories are Three Blind Mice, The ABC Murders, Murder on the Orient Express and Cards on the Table."
Crabtree (Canada)

"Favorite stories: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Witness for the Prosecution, Taken at the Flood and The ABC Murders."
James Martin (Canada)

"Favorite books: Five Little Pigs, A Murder is Announced, The Mysterious Affair at Styles and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd."
Cécile Navez (Belgium)

"Favorite books: Ten Little Niggers, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Cards on the Table and Three Act Tragedy. I have never read (and probably never will read) a murder mystery more mind-boggling, more inventive, and more amusing than any of my favorite Christies. Ten Little Niggers had me looking over my shoulder every few minutes, and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd often found me howling with laughter at the verbal antics of Dr. Sheppard and his verbose older sister. Agatha Christie is irreplaceable!"
Matthew J. Osowski (USA)

"Favorite books: Murder on the Orient Express, Death in the Clouds, The Big Four and 4.50 from Paddington. I read all the books that she wrote. And according to me she is the queen of detective story writters."
Nihan Zaimoglu (Turkey)

"Favorite books: Curtain, Ten Little Niggers, Ordeal by Innocence and Death on the Nile."
Cathleen Yu (Philippines)

"I like the Murder on the Orient Express. Hercule Poirot, is in his own mind is "Probably the greatest Detective in the world", I was surprised he said "Probably"! The reason I like Ten little Indains is how the murderer was so smart to plan all those murders and baffle the police."
Sam Roe (USA)

"I vote for the three of her prominent artwork - And Then There Were None, Death on the Nile and Murder on the Orient Express. Still , I found Appointment with Death and By the Pricking of my Thumbs rather boring."
Honey (Malaysia)

She had a clear idea of the way memory tricks and deludes us and uses this in many of my favorite stories."
Jo Strong (Detective of the Month , April 1997)

"I think that The Big Four, The ABC Murders, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Ten Little Niggers are the four top of Agatha Christie's works. All of them have unusual plots and are very gripping. Hercule Poirot rules!"

However, she also used good taste. I would recomend her books to anyone. If you are ever looking for a great mystery, pick up an Agatha Christie novel!"

"A Murder is Announced is phenomenal! I also liked Curtain, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murder on The Orient Express. They all have an unusual end, which is the most exciting thing in Christie's stories."

Samir Namur, Brazil

"My favorite is The A.B.C. Murders."

"My favoritie Christe book is Ten Little Niggers. It's fantastic. Really good. I like one more book ... The Big Four. It's a different case of Hercule Poirot and his friend Hastings, it is the most difficult case of Poirot in my point of view."
Carlos Eduardo Bernardo, Brazil.

"Favorite books: Witness for the Prosecution and Other Stories, Ten Little Niggers, Partners in Crime, The Sittaford Mystery. She was a fabulous writer nobody today can ever compare with her. I have so many more favorites esp.Poirot, Ms. Marple, and Tuppence n' Tommy."
Anonymous

"I really liked Ten Little Niggers. Christie manages to keep a spooky atmosphere throughout the whole novel and the ending is simply brilliant."
Gustav Sorberg, Sweden.

"My favorite Christie mystery is Murder on the Orient Express. I think it is her best work, though I haven't read all of her works."
Yasuko Ando

"I started reading Agatha Christie in 5th grade when I did a book report on Murder on the Orient Express. Since then, I've been hooked on Christie. I've read several of her books, but my favorites are Orient, A Murder is Announced, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Hickory Dickory Death, the play Towards Zero, and Death on the Nile. I love Death on the Nile! If anyone thinks she wrote anything better then Death on the Nile, They're Wrong with a capitol W. I'd also like to say that the films based on her work are awful!."
Marbros, U.S.A.

"I started reading Christie in high school, and my all time favorite then was And Then There Were None. What a surprise for those who have only seen the movie! The best film adaptation was of Murder on the Orient Express, but Death on the Nile was also handsomely done. I currently have over 30 first editions and hope to have 50 by the end of the year."
Steve Marcum, Kentucky

"I am a fan of Ten Little Niggers and I have read it twice (in two different languages, Icelandic and Danish) and thought it was very cleverly plotted and the ending was a big surprise."
Tómas Jónasson, Iceland

"My favorite Agatha Christie novel is The Murder of Roger Aykroyd. If you plucked out the last two chapters, nobody can solve the crime even if he/she reads it more than once."
Kakembo K. Katende

"How can you choose a favorite? There's maybe a few who can't compete, but Roger Ackroyd, Endless Night, and the one taking place in the Middle East with the dysfunctional American family where the mother gets killed (Appointment with Death) are some of my favorites."
Sanne Poulin, Denmark

"My favorite Agatha Christie is Nemesis. The plot is complicated and gives a thorough view of Miss Marple's admirable personality and abilities."
L. Rollins, U.S.A.

"My favorite Agatha Christie's mystery is surely Ten Little Niggers. I like all about this book: the perfectly designed characters, the gloomy and creepy atmosphere, the incredible plot structure. I like it so much even because it is one of the very few Agatha's mysteries in which I wasn't able to find out the culprit, till the wonderful end! I really think that nobody could guess it! What a genius she was! Anyway a part from that one I like all of her books and especially Sad Cypress, Crooked House and Murder is Easy."
Stefano Perelli, Belluno, Italy

"I would go for The Pale Horse (with Ariadne Oliver) this time. My opinions as to the 'best' Christie mystery change depending on which one I read last! This novel is about a serial killer who has a very unusual method of killing people, undetectably. The atmosphere is also nice and creepy."
Wyatt James ('Grobius') Brooklyn, NY

"My favorite Agatha Christie story is The Hollow. It's cinematized in Japan, "KIKEN NA ONNA-TACHI" (Dangerous Women) 1985."
Kenji Nagata, Japan

"My favorite story was A Murder is Announced."
Chevon

"My favorite Agatha Christie is not a mystery at all. Come Tell Me How You Live I found to be fascinating."
Mary Ann, Upstate New York, USA.

"My favorite Agatha Christie novel is definitely Why Didn't They Ask Evans?'"
Jonas, Iceland

"The short story The Affair of the Pink Pearl in the collection Partners in Crime is in my opinion the best Agatha Christie story. I also liked the Poirot mystery Three-Act Tragedy."
Kata, Iceland
