I was born on May 27th 1946 in Reykjavík. I graduated from Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík (a secondary grammar school) in 1966 and then studied abroad and at the University of Iceland where I got a BA-degree in English and English Literature. I started teaching in Kvennaskólinn í Reykjavík (a junior college) in the winter of 1966-67. I came back there in the autumn of 1970 and I was a teacher there until 2009. I twice had a sabbatical. The first one was without pay in the winter of 1986-87 and then I worked in a computer shop (Apple IMC Iceland). In the winter of 1992-93 I had my second sabbatical - with pay - and then I was studying at the University of Iceland.
Just after 1980 I was fascinated by computers and shortly afterwards I got my first computer. Therefore I also taught computer science at Kvennaskólinn í Reykjavík in 1983-96 but now I have lost most of my interest. Yet I try to keep track of the advance of computer technology.
I am very interested in exercising and staying out of doors. I regularly go hiking and climb mountains. I also enjoy cycling and in summer I travel in Iceland.
Today I watch TV much less than before and I spend more time reading good books and listening to the radio.
