Got the YAMAHA IT175J on 23.okt. 2005

IT175J

From beast to a beauty and back again

This is how the poor old girl looked after almost 24 years of being in the wrong hands; not mine :)

Pics below taken 25.okt. 2005

More pics will be added as the bike progresses in the rebuild.

Update june 2006: Have received all the needed parts to make the IT175J look correct; the missing plastics and lighting equipment, an extra seat with the "YAMAHA" Logo. Also got a very nice used expansion chamber, that is almost spotless :)

Some work left in refreshing the rear suspension linkage, a pretty complicated linkage with six joints total. Also some work left in sorting out the electrics, which really are a mess :(

Update 21. august 2006

Here are a few pics. taken on 19.aug. 2006 showing the IT175J work in progress (WIP).

(N.B. the timestamp xx.xx. 2003 is a default of my camera as it keeps running out of batteries all the time :(

Sorry about all the mess around the bike. I only get to work on it intermittently because of my job; parts availability and other life-factors. I must say though that I am a bit surprized at how good it looks so far, itīs pretty big for a 175 I think, which is good because I am also a tall guy :).

Things still left: clean up and finish the exhaust system and the bearings and bushes in the rear suspension, getting very close to finishing that, been some problems with finding bearings and bushings for the complicated rear suspension, but thatīs nothing eBay and some thinking, and a bit of help from some good Local machinists wonīt rectify.
